It's so easy to get swept up in "becoming" rather than just "being".Sharon Carltonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02554138190314679768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7233403960612156810.post-19766684298465588722011-03-18T12:43:35.730-06:002011-03-18T12:43:35.730-06:00I never cease to be amazed at how the most profoun...I never cease to be amazed at how the most profound truths can be so basic. The Eastern mystics learned meditation and deep breathing techniques ages ago and taught them widely.

In the Western world the emphasis is on success and prestige. I heard a commentator pointing out on how high school students who aspire to gain higher educations must start the application process long before graduation, with the goal of being accepted at the most prestigeous universities and colleges.

How sad that Westerners no longer view life as an adventure and education as a joy of learning with the main purpose of improving minds and not simply a stepping stone to higher paying positions and personal prestige.

The Latin word from which the word "educate" is derived is "educare", to draw out. A good life shouldn't be defined solely by material gain or by personal prestige, but by higher standards.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
